Traditional Chestnut Fencing

Lesnes Abbey Conservation
Volunteers maintain traditional chestnut (post & rail) fencing
which protects wildflower enclosures in Lesnes Abbey woods. Repairing
the wooden fence is a contast job which needs to be done. In order to
protect the wonderful display of daffodils in spring & the later
display of bluebells, as well as many other native woodland flowers.
The
fence also helps to protect the woodland creatures & their habitats
in the enclosures. The wildflower enclosures have been designated as a
site of special scientific interest, due to the site's underlying
geology.
